Wallace vs Larbert at Wallace

Wallace’s under 16 rugby team opened their competitive schedule with a 40-0 win over Larbert High in the Scottish bowl. Last year the under 16 team got far in this competition getting to the quarter finals. This was a well deserved and easy victory for the team.The Starting line-up
There was a late change to the starting line-up as Fraser Allison (Second Row) was absent on the day therefore Sage Chittick filled in for the absent forward. Ross MacLeod didn’t play as he was out with an injury to his leg but was listed as a substitute in the hope that he may be feeling fit enough to play. The Game
After Wallace won the first possession it was not long until Archie Russell took advantage of a whole in the defence’s line and scrambled in for the try near the post making it an easy conversion for Ciaran Wood to kick to give Wallace the early 7-0 lead. Ross Brooks managed to score a try not to long after that to give Wallace a 12-0 lead. Archie Russell kicked the conversion to extend Wallace’s lead to 14-0. Callum Jardine got the last score of the first half with a try; the conversion kick was missed, giving Wallace a 19-0 cushion at the half. After the half Lloyd Hannah managed to return a punt from Larbert past the try-line for five points to extend the lead to 24-0, and then Archie Russell kicked the conversion to extend the lead even further to 26-0. Archie Russell managed to make his way past the try-line for the second time during the game to make the lead 31-0 and then Ciaran Wood added another two points with a conversion to make the score 33-0. The final score try of the day was scored by the big forward Danny Willis. Archie Russell had the last touch of the ball while kicking another successful conversion. After the conversion was through the uprights the final whistle blew ten minutes from time as there was no need to keep going on as there was no way Larbert were coming back from the deficit. The final score was Wallace high 40, Larbert High 0.
Post Game
After the game Coach Fulton announced that Ciaran Wood was the games man of the match. The honorary captain for the game was Rory McRae who played rugby for the school in S1 but has not been playing due to serious illness he has been going in and out of hospital for the past year and a bit and is steadily on the mend. The play of the game this week was Lloyd Hannah’s punt return for a try. I thought this was the play of the game because by himself he managed with his blazing speed to deny anyone the right to tackle him or stop him in anyway.If Wallace plays like this all season then there is a high chance for these players to be able to call themselves Scottish schools champions by the end of the season but what mustn’t happen now is that the team to get complacent and stop working hard in training but if they manage to stay in shape all season and keep themselves from being injured they should have a long and successful season.
